KICK BACK AT “KANIKAPILA IN KAILUA”
Kailua came alive with the sound of music in May when the musical group Waipuna kicked off a new free summer music series called “Kanikapila in Kailua.”
The concerts, taking place one Saturday a month, are a celebration of the culture of Windward Oahu and a showcase for some of the Hawaii’s favorite musicians. Opening the series was Na Hoku Hanohano award nominee Waipuna, made up of talented local boys Kale Hannahs, Matt Sproat and David Kamakahi. Subsequent concerts featured Kaukahi and Del Beazley.
Sponsored by the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation in collaboration with Kaukahi member Kawika Kahiapo, “Kanikapila in Kailua” brings families and friends together throughout the summer for entertainment and great local food on the second floor of the parking facility near Whole Foods Market in Kailua Town Center 3.
Audience members are encouraged to pick up their favorite pupus at nearby Kailua eateries, bring their lawn chairs and blankets and sit back and enjoy the music.
Upcoming performances will include Maunalua (Aug. 25), Weldon Kekauoha (Sept. 22), Led Kaapana & Mike Kaawa (Oct. 20) and the great Cyril Pahinui (Nov. 17).
