Kaneohe Ranch

Map & Directions

Getting to Kailua from any location on Oahu is easy if you understand the terms “windward side,” “leeward side,” “mauka” and “makai.” The “leeward side” of Oahu is where Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, Ewa Beach, Waianae and Hawaii Kai are. On the “windward side” are Waimanalo, Kailua, Kaneohe and various other little towns as you head toward the North Shore. Mauka means “toward the mountains” and makai means “toward the ocean or shoreline.” Generally, if you are on the leeward side of Oahu, on the H-1 Freeway, coming from either east or west, you will take one of three highways to get to the windward side: the H-3 Freeway, Likelike Highway or Pali Highway. Once on the windward side of the island, you will follow major highways and roads into Kailua Town.
